It was playing fine up until a couple of weeks ago, UNTIL: it began playing a disc, then jumping around on the disc, and then skipping to the next disc Sounds like this is a very common issue. I cleaned all the discs, even tried brand new ones. I hear laser pickup and objective lens and tracker, and mirror, but I am not sure where these are located, let alone how to clean.
I suspect the problem is dust, because the house is dusty, but I need some good counsel here. Please give me some suggestions if you can help a neophyte fix this! I hate throwing more money at this. John The only thing cleanable with the type of laser fitted to that player, is the lens itself.
That is the top of the optical block laser and the lens is in the midle of that. Clean it with something like a Q-Tip moistened, not soaked, in electronics grade Then polish with a dry Q-Tip. Alternatively, you might want to replace the deck as a complete assembly. Although there is no mechanical alignment to carry out when replacing these lasers, and it is an easy enough job to do, by replacing the whole deck, you do get the added advantage of a new spindle motor, and new sled motor and drive gears.
All depends on how much money you want to spend on it really.
